About Choozle

At Choozle, we provide a digital advertising software platform that leverages high-volume data to power programmatic campaigns across all digital media channels. We bridge the gap between complex advertising technology and actionable business outcomes. As a remote-first organization, we prize clarity, cross-functional agility, and a data-driven approach to everything we do.

The Role

  • We are seeking an operationally excellent, tech-forward Controller to serve as a hands-on financial leader responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timely reporting of Choozle's financial records.
  • This role is also our finance function's sponsor for AI adoption. You'll be a hands-on partner in building AI-augmented workflows — using LLM-based tools, primarily Claude, to automate and improve how finance operates — and, just as importantly, you'll help teams across the company recognize where these tools create real leverage. We're looking for someone oriented toward bringing others along, not just optimizing their own desk.
  • You will own Choozle's short-term liquidity, taking complete ownership of our 13-week rolling cash flow forecast. You'll serve as the primary internal point of contact for our external partners — leading the relationship with our auditors, our outsourced accounting support, and our tax filing partner  — and you'll manage our multi-state sales tax and nexus compliance. You'll partner with our data and BI teams, who own Snowflake and Looker, to consolidate our multi-platform systems into a trusted financial source of truth — using that environment to audit high-volume platform transactions, track SaaS metrics, maintain a centralized vendor registry, and support a lightweight corporate purchasing policy.
  • Other Duties
Please note that this job description is not exhaustive. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time, with or without notice.

Who You Are

  • Experienced Financial Leader: 6–10+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on leadership of general ledger, revenue recognition, and financial reporting. Startup, SaaS, or digital media/adtech background is highly valued.
  • Revenue Recognition Depth: Strong command of ASC 606, with direct experience navigating the gross-vs-net / principal-vs-agent treatment of media pass-through in an adtech or programmatic context. You can document and defend a revenue recognition position that holds up under audit scrutiny.
  • Audit & Tax Expert: Experience serving as the primary point of contact for an external CPA firm during a true annual GAAP audit. Technical knowledge of multi-state sales tax, economic nexus thresholds, and SaaS/digital media tax compliance is required.
  • AI-Oriented Operator: Genuinely excited about the future of finance. You use LLM-based tools (we lean heavily on Claude) to automate workflows, structure data, and reduce manual effort — and you build the right human-in-the-loop review and controls around them. You're as interested in helping others adopt these tools as you are in using them yourself.
  • Comfortable in a Modern Data Stack: You're an effective user of and partner to BI — able to work within and direct work across centralized data environments like Snowflake and Looker to get to a trusted financial source of truth. You don't need to be a data engineer; you do need to know what good looks like and partner closely with the team that owns the plumbing.
  • Liquidity & Systems Operator: Proven track record managing rolling 13-week cash flow models. Fluent across modern tech stacks including QBO, Stripe, Ramp, Rippling, HubSpot, Salesforce, Snowflake, Looker, Slack, and Carta.
  • Credentials & Location: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred. Must reside in the U.S. and be authorized to work without sponsorship. Comfortable working within MountainTime (MST) core hours.

What You'll Do

  • Operations & Month-End Close: Direct day-to-day operations across AR, AP, payroll (via Rippling), and cash management. Lead close cycles to deliver rapid, accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements, leveraging our accounting support partners as needed.
  • Cash Flow & Liquidity: Own the production, accuracy, and automation of Choozle's 13-week rolling cash flow model. Lead weekly executive syncs to analyze variances and build toward automated data pipelines.
  • Audit Readiness & Tax Compliance: Serve as the primary liaison to our auditors to ensure an efficient annual GAAP audit, and to Accountant for annual tax filings. Monitor Choozle's multi-state economic nexus footprint, ensuring compliance across sales and employment tax filings.
  • AI Sponsorship & Workflow Automation: Partner hands-on in designing and building AI-augmented financial workflows, with appropriate human-in-the-loop review and controls. Act as the internal sponsor for AI adoption — helping teams across the company identify where LLM-based tools create real leverage, and turning early wins into a repeatable approach others can follow.
  • Data Consolidation & Business Intelligence: Partner with our data and BI teams to make Snowflake a trusted financial source of truth, consolidating billing pipelines from HubSpot, Salesforce, Stripe, and QBO. Help define validation techniques for month-end reporting using BI and supporting tooling.
  • AR, Billing, & Revenue Integrity: Provide functional and technical direction and mentorship to our internal AR/Billing Analyst, who reports into RevOps today because billing is tightly coupled to deal desk and our CRM work. Optimize the quote-to-cash lifecycle and support the finance and billing workstream of our Salesforce-to-HubSpot migration.
  • Vendor Management & Purchasing Policy: Use LLM-based tools to audit historical contracts and maintain a master vendor inventory (renewals, costs, utilization), with human review built into the process. Draft and enforce an agile purchasing policy embedded directly into Ramp workflows. You'll own the direction and pace here.

Your First 6–12 Months

  • By day 90 — Own the rhythm. You'll have taken full ownership of the month-end close and the 13-week rolling cash flow model, delivering both on a predictable cadence. You'll have built working relationships with our accounting support partner, our AR/Billing Analyst, and our audit and tax partners — and you'll have a clear-eyed map of our tech stack (QBO, Stripe, Ramp, Rippling) and where the friction and manual effort actually live.
  • By 6 months — Build and standardize. You'll have shipped your first one or two AI-augmented workflows with proper human-in-the-loop review built in, and established yourself as the internal sponsor helping other teams identify where LLM-based tools (primarily Claude) create real leverage. You'll have stood up a master vendor registry and drafted a lightweight purchasing policy embedded in Ramp. You'll also have documented and defended our revenue recognition position — including the gross-vs-net / principal-vs-agent treatment of media pass-through — so it's audit-ready rather than reconstructed under deadline.
  • By 12 months — Lead and scale. You'll have taken a materially larger role in the annual GAAP audit — serving as the primary liaison to CBiz and reducing how much we lean on support partners to prepare the underlying work — while keeping tax filings with the accountant running on a clear, well-supported cadence. Our multi-state nexus and sales/employment tax footprint will be actively monitored and compliant rather than reactive. You'll have partnered with the data/BI team to make Snowflake a trusted financial source of truth feeding validated month-end reporting, and you'll have supported the finance and billing workstream of our Salesforce-to-HubSpot migration. Most importantly, AI adoption in finance will have moved from your individual projects to a repeatable approach others across the company are starting to copy.
